Altus Animal Aid, Inc.

      Every 40 Seconds?

Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States seeks medical attention for a dog bite.

Most of the victims (60%) are children under the age of 10, and 70% of the attacks occur by the family pet.  Last year in the State of Oklahoma over 47,000 children received medical care for dog bites.  Cost per year in the United States for treatment of children bitten by dogs:  $99,000,000.00

On the 3rd of May 1999 an F5 Tornado with through the Cities of Moore, Norman, Mid-West City and Oklahoma City.  In 6 hours after the tornado when through these towns 93 people where injured.  Of the 93 injured 15% where injured by misplaced animals.   Of the 15% injured 5% where children looking for their family pet.

With the development of educational safety Videos and inter-active CDs we look at decreasing the amount of children injure and even killed each year due to dog bites and natural disasters.  The Videos and CDs will cover a number of safety areas to include: disaster preparedness for kids, what kids should do an not do before and after a disaster, know what your pet is telling you by their body language, what to do if you’re approached by a stray animal, and to include kids fist aid.  Though the use of computers and software purchased with your donation Altus Animal Aid can help to reduce the number of children hurt and even killed each year by both dog attacks and natural disaster!

Only through proactive educational programs can we dream of stopping this on-going and growing statistic.

Remember, 70% are bitten in their homes!

Please help us be part of the cure and keep our children safe!
